Column bracing in steel structure

The support between columns is usually located in the middle of the column. Therefore, the horizontal tied bar on the top of the column should be designed as a rigid tied bar so as to transfer the load on the horizontal support of the roof to the inter-column support, such as adding an inter-column support when the building is longer. The support between the two columns is placed in one third of the longitudinal direction. When the support between columns can not be set in the ideal position required by the structural design because of the use requirements of the building, it can also be deviated from the middle of the column. The support between columns can be designed as cross-shaped, octagonal, door-shaped, or even rigid frame.

In the same building, it is better to use one type of inter-column bracing, not several types of inter-column bracing mixed use. If the functional requirements such as opening doors, windows or other factors affect the use of rigid frame support or truss support. When the support system must be mixed, the stiffness should be consistent as far as possible. If the stiffness requirement can not be met, the vertical and horizontal forces borne by each support should be analyzed concretely to ensure the stability and safety of the structure, and the symmetry of the support settings should also be paid attention to.
