Shear wall structure, that is, the structure composed of shear walls to withstand vertical and horizontal action. At present, structural wall structures are widely used in high-rise residential buildings, but for areas with high seismic fortification intensity, such as Beijing, because the local specifications for special-shaped columns are not recognized, even six-storey residential buildings will use shear wall structure system.


It should be noted that the frame-shear wall structure system can be used for residential buildings with low quality requirements. Generally speaking, the overturning moment of frame-shear wall structure is 20% to 30%.


Layout Principles of Shear Wall Structures

1. Arrange shear walls at corners as far as possible.

2. Core tube and shear wall are arranged in vertical traffic.

3. It should be strengthened at the farthest distance from rigidity.

4. The wall should be arranged as simple as L and T, not too complicated. At the same time, the length of the wing wall of the shear wall should be as large as three times as the thickness of the wing wall, so as to reduce the length of the restrained edge members and reinforcement.

5. Minimize the appearance of short-leg shear wall. When the overturning moment of short-leg shear wall exceeds 30%, it is a structure with more short-leg shear wall. The overturning moment of short-leg shear wall should not exceed 50%.

6. The length of the wall should not be greater than 8 meters, so as to avoid large cracks and breakage of steel bars after bending.

7. Avoid sudden change in stiffness. For example, the roof elevator room should be properly strengthened to reduce the whip effect.
