1. Construction site

When choosing a building site of steel structure building, we should grasp the information of seismic activity and engineering geology according to the needs of the project, and make a comprehensive evaluation of the building site. It is advisable to choose areas that are beneficial to building seismic resistance, such as open and flat hard site soil or dense and uniform dry site soil, to avoid areas that are disadvantageous to building seismic resistance, such as weak site soil, liquefiable soil, strip-shaped prominent mouths, high isolated hills, non-rock steep slopes, mined-out areas, riverbanks and slope margins.

2. Foundation

In order to avoid the uneven settlement of steel buildings leading to cracks or even inclination of structures, so that structural members enter the plastic zone prematurely, the same structural unit should not be set on foundation soils with distinct properties. It is not appropriate to use natural foundation partly and pile foundation partly. When the foundation has soft cohesive soil, liquefiable soil or seriously inhomogeneous soil layer, the integrity and rigidity of the foundation should be strengthened. 。

3. Plane and elevation layout

In order to avoid the weak links caused by torsion and stress concentration or plastic deformation concentration during earthquake, the layout of building plane and elevation should be regular and symmetrical, and the change of mass distribution and stiffness should be uniform. However, when no seismic joint is set, the calculation model which is consistent with the actual situation should be adopted. When setting the seismic joint, the building should be divided into regular structural units.
