In the new century, with the widening of the application field of steel structure and the renewal of exterior wall materials, steel curtain wall has become an indispensable exterior wall enclosure structure for high-rise buildings, which integrates the advantages of light weight, good seismic resistance, flexible design, fast construction and green environmental protection. In order to improve the physical properties of the steel curtain wall and the overall aesthetic feeling of the building, what codes should be paid attention to in the design of the steel curtain wall?


Material selection

1. The materials used for steel curtain walls shall conform to the relevant regulations and standards of the State. For materials without corresponding standards, they shall conform to the design requirements and be accompanied by a certificate of factory acceptance.

2. The material of steel curtain wall should be climate-resistant. The metal materials and metal fittings should adopt effective anti-rust and anti-corrosion measures.

3. Steel curtain wall should be made of non-combustible materials or non-combustible materials, and fire-proof sealing materials should be used in fire-proof sealing structures.

4. The sealant of neutral silicone structure must be used to bond the glass and aluminium profiles of concealed and semi-concealed glass curtain walls, while the sealant of acidic silicone structure should not be used for all-glass curtain walls and point-supported curtain walls when coated glass is used.

5. Silicone structural sealant and silicone building sealant must be used within the validity period.

General principles of design

1. According to the design of the enclosure structure, it does not bear the load and earthquake action of the main structure.

2. Second, the curtain wall and its connectors have sufficient bearing capacity, stiffness and displacement capacity relative to the main structure.

3. The curtain wall of non-seismic design should not be broken under the action of wind force; the curtain wall of seismic design should not be damaged under the action of frequent earthquakes; the curtain wall repaired under the action of fortification intensity earthquake can still be used; and the curtain wall skeleton should not fall off under the action of rare earthquakes.


Fourthly, the safety degree under the influence of gravity load, wind load, earthquake, temperature and displacement of main structure should be considered in the design of component.


Although the steel curtain wall no longer plays a load-bearing role, its design still needs to be strictly implemented in accordance with relevant regulations and standards. Only by designing reasonably and normatively can the curtain wall structure be stable and safe and be used for a long time.
